The Tarchon Project team is reminding communities across Tendring that there is still time to provide feedback on its latest proposals before the current non-statutory consultation closes at 11.59pm Thursday 13th August 2026.
The proposed Tarchon Interconnector Project will create a direct power link between the UK and Germany. Connecting the two energy markets, it will increase energy security and reliability, help to reduce energy costs, and facilitate the integration of renewable energy.
The Project consists of an electricity interconnector comprising approximately 760 kilometres of onshore and offshore cabling between Essex in the UK and Niederlangen, in Lower Saxony, Germany. Once operational, it would enable up to 1.8GW of electricity to flow between the two countries in either direction – enough to supply up to 1.9 million households.
The UK has a relatively large renewable energy mix and often generates significant volumes of renewable electricity. The Tarchon Project will allow surplus clean energy to be exported when available and imported when needed, creating a more resilient, efficient, and sustainable energy system for both countries. The more connected a country’s energy system is, the less vulnerable it becomes to energy shortages, supply disruptions, or volatility in global fossil fuel markets.

Jonathan Wood, Project Director for the Tarchon Interconnector Project, said:
“Thank you to everyone who has attended one of our consultation events, joined our webinar or already taken the time to provide feedback on our latest proposals.
“It is important that our proposals are informed by the views of the communities closest to the Project. I would therefore encourage residents, community groups, businesses and other interested stakeholders to review the consultation material and share their feedback before the consultation closes on 13th August.
“All feedback submitted during the consultation will be carefully reviewed and will help inform the ongoing development of the Project.
“Our engagement with stakeholders and local communities will continue after the consultation has ended as we further develop the proposals and work closely with communities across Tendring.”
The Project will hold further consultations with the local community as the Project develops, these will be publicised on the Tarchon website and the Project team encourages the local community to register on the website for updates.
The current non-statutory consultation began on Friday 3rd July with public consultation events in Harwich, Great Bromley, Ardleigh, Lawford and Wix, as well as an online webinar which can be viewed on the website.
The events gave residents and stakeholders an opportunity to speak directly with members of the Project team, view the latest proposals and maps, and ask questions. More than 160 people attended the consultation events, and the Project has so far received over 57 feedback forms.
